Asberger's Anyone?

I liked the idea that I mated with the right no-brainer... A friend once pointed out to me that, in areas where there are higher concentrations of nerdy-types, there are higher incidences of Asberger's Syndrome & Autism in children. You see, when one super-geek mates with another super-geek, you have machine-brain progeny -- kids that can add up anything, but feel nothing. Ta-da! Autism. So, in Silicon Valley and Montgomery County Maryland, there are LOTS of Autistic kids.

My point being, that I'm glad I pro-created with a (ahem) artistic man. And, now that I'm reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, which is told from the perspective of an Autistic kid, I am SURE I have the genetics to make my own Autistic kid.

So, I'm listening to this audio book -- just cause I can't really see _not_ multi-tasking -- as I'm cleaning my bathroom... and I start going through my daughter's room, just because her clutter makes me crazy. Suddenly, I realize that I'm no different from some kid who lines up all of his toy cars, or memorizes what's in his pocket. Shit, I'm a librarian! How much more freakin' hyper-organized do you get?

Good thing I'm not planning on makin' any more babies... with geeks.

I've read a lot of the research, anecdotal or otherwise, HMS and Wired, that suggests that hard core compsci geeks procreating amongst themselves create many more progeny with Asperger's and autism than the norm.

It looks bonafide -- and aside from the shared sadness around Silicon Valley or wherever geeks congregate, copulate, consumate, conjugate, what-have-you -- it's perhaps vaguely hopeful, in terms or producing the next generation of brilliant, antisocial engineers.

So yer planning on making babies with NON-geeks? If you take your previous experience as an indicator, that would be true to form.

Thing is, "geeks" are in vogue these days. Seriously. It's the whole "Web 2.0" thing.

Or, at least, we like to think so.

:D

Good luck applying the Dewey Decimal System to your daughter's clothes.
